My friend wants me to buy him a memory card and he described it to have a little switch to the left of the memory card. My own Kodak camera has an SD memory card that also has a switch on the left of it. So do all or most share the same memory card? I just want to know so I won’t get the wrong memory card. Thank you!
A memory card is a small memory device that can be used in a variety of devices. These are generally called SD / MicroSD / SDHC cards. They are all, however, basically the same.
The small switch on the left is for "write protection." It will keep the card from being "edited" — photos or other files on the card are less likely to be accidentally deleted or edited if you have the write protection switch on.
Your Kodak camera can use almost any traditional memory card, as can most cameras. Generally, the only factor you need to worry about is size; some cameras can only be used with a card that is 4 gigabytes or less. Other than that, almost any memory card should work for you — and for your friend.
However, when you buy a camera in a "set" — for instance, it may come not only with the camera but a handy carrying case and a memory card, the cards are usually from a bulk stock and all the same.
That does not mean that you cannot use other memory cards. Almost any card should work for your friend — or for you.
